If the letter is from a collector

A collections notice means someone else is asking for the balance. It is still worth comparing to the original bill and the EOB. Ask for the itemization and the name of the original creditor. Dispute specific lines in writing if they do not match.

What this desk will not do

We do not call the collector. We do not stop a credit report. We do not promise that a letter will pause collections. You can ask them to hold the account while you review. That is a request, not a shield.

If the amount is large or the file is already in collections, a human advocate may be the next step. We can introduce a partner. They work for themselves.
