The No Surprises Act, in plain English
For many emergency visits and some planned care at an in-network facility, federal law limits surprise bills from out-of-network doctors who worked on that visit — anesthesiology, radiology, pathology, and some others. You generally should not get the full out-of-network balance for those situations.
It does not wipe out your deductible. It does not cover every clinic visit. It does not mean a bill is fake. Ground ambulance has different rules. Always read the notice that came with the bill.
If a line looks like surprise billing, that is a reason to ask in writing — not a verdict that you owe nothing. We flag possible surprise-billing risk. We do not decide the statute for your visit.
